06.06.2008 - The Research Council of RMK awaits proposals regarding research topics 05.10

The Research Council summoned by the State Forest Management Centre (RMK) expects proposals about high-priority research topics, on the basis of which RMK will start ordering applied research. In order to fund the research projects selected, MEEK 1 has been allocated to the science fund of RMK this year.

The first deadline for the proposals for the research topics is 15 June. The description of the research topics should not exceed 2000 characters, and the goals and importance of the research topic must be explained in the description, as well as the relations with the Estonian Forestry Development Plan and the strategic goals of RMK, and the possibilities for elaborating the topic and the assessment of feasibility.

The research topics submitted by 15 June will be discussed at the next meeting of the Research Council, which will be held on 30 June 2008. Applications for research topics can be submitted via the web page of RMK at any moment; these will be reviewed in running order and be submitted for discussion at the following meetings of the Council.

The Research Council of RMK includes academic specialists, who advise the management board of RMK in ordering the applied research related to the field of forest management. The members of the Council are Asko Lõhmus, Head of the conservation biology group at Tartu University, Professor Krista Lõhmus, Head of the Chair of Ecophysiology at the Estonian University of Life Sciences, Professor Kalev Sepp, Head of the Department of Landscape Management and Nature Conservation at the Estonian University of Life Sciences, Professor Rein Ahas, Head of the Chair of Human Geography and Regional Planning at Tartu University, and Kalev Jõgiste, Head of the Department of Forest Biology, Institute of Forestry and Rural Engineering, Estonian University of Life Sciences. In addition to academic experts, the Research Council also includes employees of RMK.
