RMK winter family day in Aegviidu 01.03
On Saturday the 6th of March, we await all forest enthusiasts to take part in the winter family day “The Forest and You” in the RMK Aegviidu-Kõrvemaa recreational area. The event lasts from 11.00 to 16.00 and takes place in the Kõrvemaa Hike and Ski Resort and its surrounding area.
The family day offers suitable activities for everybody. There is the possibility of taking a trip on snowshoes or push sleigh, riding a snowmobile, participants can make handicrafts outside or inside, and build using snow or wood. In the workshops we teach felting, the art of broom making and using a jigsaw.
“We invite everyone to spend a healthy and educational day with their family and friends and to try out the skills gained over a wonderful and snowy winter,” said Marge Rammo, Head of the Nature Preservation Department of RMK.
Besides sledging and building snow sculptures, there is a hiking tour planned for children where they can learn about nature and the forest in winter. RMK partners OÜ 360 Kraadi and OÜ Matkajuht will organize trips on snowshoes or push sleigh for enthusiasts. Participants can get advice on the basics of skiing, on different techniques and on the choice of clothing and distances. In addition, experts give advice on using ski wax. It is also possible to rent skis and snowmobiles or to use a ski maintenance shop.
Visitors can watch nature movies in the meeting hall of the RMK Aegviidu nature centre and visit an the exhibition titled “Röövlinnud - metsa uhkus” (“Birds of Prey – The Pride of the Forest”) or the exhibition titled “Meisterdusi metsast” (“Handicraft from the Forest”), which is based on a kindergarten competition, and they can also join the “The Forest and You” forest friends club. During the whole event there is the possibility of getting hot tea outside, and hot soup as well as sweet buns and tea in the kitchen tent. Visitors can also taste and buy honey and herbal teas.
Participation for a family or group of friends (up to 5 persons) will be EEK 150. A single ticket costs EEK 50 with advance registration. On-site the family/friends tickets costs EEK 225 and a single ticket costs EEK 75. Free participation for children under the age of 4. All participants will receive an armband, which allows them to participate in the activities, in the raffle and lunch. Among the people who have purchased the family or friends ticket, 10 overnight stays at the forest houses of RMK will be raffled.
We recommend taking the train to come to the family day. For everybody who takes the electric train, we offer in cooperation with Elektriraudtee a discount in the form of a free return ticket. To make use of the bonus, please keep the ticket from the trip to Aegviidu, get a “The Forest and You” stamp on the backside of the ticket from the information tent and present that ticket for the return trip. Since the Kõrvemaa Hike and Ski Resort where the family day takes place is situated 5 km outside of Aegviidu, there will be free busses travelling between the Aegviidu nature centre (Jaama 7, Aegviidu) and the Kõrvemaa Hike and Ski Resort.
