10.05.2004 - Supervisory Board of the State Forest Management Centre approves annual report 29.09
The Supervisory Board of the State Forest Management Centre of Estonia (RMK) approved the audited annual report of RMK for 2003. According to the audited financial results, the turnover of RMK in the previous year was 950 million kroons, and profit was 95 million kroons. Revenue from forests of 172 million kroons went into the state budget, and investments totalled 82 million kroons.
“The Supervisory Board of RMK is delighted to report that the financial results of RMK have continuously improved in virtually all indicators since the foundation of the organisation,” said Andres Onemar, chairman of the Supervisory Board. “RMK has improved its performance while maintaining stability, and this is a tribute to all the employees of the state forest sector.”
In 2003, RMK sold 1.9 million cubic metres of timber at an average price of 400 kroons per cubic metre, and 0.6 million cubic metres of standing timber at an average price of 226 kroons per cubic metre. By comparison, in 2002 1.87 million cubic metres of timber at an average price of 396 kroons per cubic metre, and 0.73 million cubic metres of standing timber at an average price of 185 kroons per cubic metre, were sold.
Reforestation works in the state forest in 2003 covered an area of 7375 ha, of which planting accounted for 3977 ha, sowing 1030 ha, and facilitating of natural reforestation 2372 ha. The replenished forest plantation area was 1781 ha and the maintenance area of forest cultures was 11,193 ha. Forest-related development projects for the general population were established for 4.5 million kroons.
Fires in forests managed by RMK in 2003 covered an area of 70 ha. (In 2002, there were 161 fires with an area of 1374 ha.)
In 2002 the turnover of RMK was 931 million kroons, of which sales of timber were 742 million kroons, and sales of standing timber were 136 million kroons. The amount of 172 million kroons went into the state budget as tax on the revenue from forests, and 58 million kroons as land tax. In 2002, RMK made a profit of 80 million kroons.
The Supervisory Board of RMK has 9 members: Villu Reiljan — Minister of the Environment, Andres Onemar — Director of Hiiumaa Protected Areas Administration, Ivar Dembovski — Chairman of the Board of the Estonian Forest Industries Association, Raivo Sulg — Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance, Toomas Trapido — Managing Director of the Estonian Fund for Nature, Andres Lume — Manager of AS Kunda Trans, Küllo Arjakas and Rein Randver — members of Riigikogu, and Indrek Laas — Chief Specialist of the Forestry Department of the Minister of the Environment.
RMK is a profit-making state agency founded by the Forest Act and its main fields of activity are forest management, hunting and provision for recreation in the state forest. RMK manages the land that is under administration of the Ministry of the Environment with a total area of 1,063 million ha, including the forest land of 830 thousand ha. Of the forests, 14.4 % are protected forests where the main objective is the preservation of natural features, 18.2% are protected forests where the objective is the protection of the environment, and 67.3% are commercial forests where the main objective is to earn income from forest management.
