RMK transferred 79.5 million kroons as forest revenue to the state budget in the first quarter of 2004, or 48% of the amount planned for in the annual budget, and almost 5 million kroons more than in the same period in 2003. The revenue of RMK in the first quarter was 428 million kroons, which is 37 million kroons more than the revenue in the same period in 2003.

Most of the revenue is derived from the sales of timber and standing timber; revenue from other activities accounted for 35 million kroons. “In general, 40% of the annual sales target is reached in the first quarter; other silvicultural works such as forest planting, nature maintenance, etc. are performed mainly in the second and third quarter,” said Eteri Harring, Deputy Finance Director of RMK.

In the first quarter, RMK sold 758,000 cubic metres of timber at an average price of 480 kroons per cubic metre and 208,00 cubic metres of standing timber at the average price of 253 kroons per cubic metre. “Revenue from selling timber and standing timber increased because the price of timber increased by 36 kroons in comparison with the same period in 2003, and the price of standing timber increased by 40 kroons,” added Eteri Harring.

RMK spent a total of 4.1 million kroons in the first quarter to make possible the use of nature based on forest-related rights, and to promote nature awareness, among the general population. RMK earned 1.84 million kroons in the first quarter from hunting (sales of hunting packages, hunting products and hunting licences).

The state forest management agency RMK is a profit-making state agency, whose main objective is effective and sustainable use of the state forest, e.g. reforestation, forest maintenance and use of forest, and organisation of forest protection. RMK arranges for game maintenance in the state forest and ensures forest-related rights for the general population.
