21.08.2006 - RMK earned EEK 617 million in the first half of the year 29.09

The State Forest Management Centre (RMK) earned EEK 617.3 million in the first half of 2006, which is 52.7 percent of the budgeted revenue for this year, and is EEK 52.9 million less than a year earlier. RMK earned the majority of its income through the sale of cutting rights for standing forest and timber.

“Income fell because of the fall in the price of forest material,” said Jaanus Laas, Finance Director of RMK. “While in the first half of last year one cubic metre of forest material cost on average 543 kroons, the price this year was 476 kroons.”

During the first half of the year, RMK paid EEK 104.7 million in forest income into the budget. This is 51.9 percent of this year’s planned figure and similar to the amount paid by RMK a year ago (105 million).

RMK sold 1.16 million cubic metres of forest material for EEK 553 million, which represents 56 percent of the estimated sales volume for this year (by the end of the first half of 2005, RMK had sold 1.09 million cubic metres of forest material for EEK 594.2 million).

Sale of cutting rights for standing forests has fallen as planned, in comparison with the first half of 2005: while in the first half of 2005 RMK sold EEK 40.8 million worth of cutting rights, the amount this year has been EEK 5.9 million.
       
The State Forest Management Centre RMK, created by the Forest Act, is a governmental profit-making institution, whose main duty is the sustainable and efficient management of state forests, reforestation, tending and use of forests, and the organisation of forest protection. RMK takes care of game in the state forests and ensures forest use in accordance with the public right to use forests. RMK manages nearly 40 percent of Estonia’s forests.
