23.04.2007 - A forestry vision conference took place in Tartu 29.09
On 20 April, a forestry vision conference, in which more than 150 employees of the forestry and wood industry sector and people related to the forest and the environment took part, was held in Tartu.
The slogan of this year’s forest week is “Forests Are In” and the current vision conference was also held under the same title. In addition to the evaluation of normal conditions and future perspectives, topics such as the current and future trends of the use of timber, wood energy perspectives, the role of innovation in forestry, ongoing developments in the natural environment and the reputation of forestry in the public eye were discussed.
Presenters included, among others, Valdur Lahtvee, the Executive Director of the Tallinn Centre of the Stockholm Environment Institute, Kaido Kukk from the wood processing enterprise UPM-Kymmene, Urmas Tartes from the Estonian University of Life Sciences, forestry consultant Petri Vasara (consulting firm Pöyry OY, Finland), and Andres Onemar, the development director of the State Forest management Centre (RMK).
The vision conference, which took place within the framework of the preliminary events of the annual forest week, was organised by Eesti Metsaselts (Estonian Society of Foresters) in cooperation with RMK. SA Keskkonnainvesteeringute Keskus (Environmental Investment Centre) contributed to the financing of the organisation of the conference.
