The recreation area characterised by different forms of landscape and biological diversity includes the area in between the Haanja, Karula and Kornet uplands. The hilly landscape that is rich in rivers and lakes is perfect for an eventful holiday – there are good possibilities for hiking trips on foot or by bicycle, water adventures, fishing, having a picnic or nature-watching.

The recreation area is divided into three: Tõrva, Pähni and Taheva. The Taheva area offers visitors actives ways of getting about by bicycle, on foot and by car. Separate objects in the areas are connected by bicycle trails. The Pähni area and the nature centre offer visitors, first and foremost, nature education activity, for which there are nature education trails, a forest museum and a study classroom. The third separate object – Tõrva area – that has emerged is meant for a visitor moving about by car, who is interested in the cultural heritage and heritage culture in Estonia, making stops in nature for a change. The main attractions are Lake Valgjärv in Koorküla Village, the Soontaga camping area and the Sangaste forest park with an outdoor fireplace and hiking trail.
