Small predators
In Estonia, 8 different small predators may be hunted. According to hunting rules, small predators may be hunted at the following times:
- A calling
hunt, hunting from hides or a stalking hunt and box trap are allowed for fox
from 1 August until 31 March; a burrow hunt or driven hunt and hunting with a
hunting dog or with bounding flag line are allowed from 1 October until the end
of the hunting year.
- A calling
hunt, hunting from hides or a stalking hunt and box trap are allowed for
raccoon dog all year round, and a burrow hunt or hunting with a hunting dog or
bounding flag line are allowed from 1 October until the end of the hunting year.
On islets and small islands within a reserve, fox and raccoon dog may be hunted with a box trap or a hunting dog from 1 October until 30 April.
- Hunting
from hides or a stalking hunt or a box trap are allowed for badger from 1
September until the end of the hunting year; a burrow hunt or driven hunt and
hunting with a hunting dog are allowed from 1 October until the end of the
hunting year.
- Pine marten
or stone marten or ferret may be hunted from a tree or building using a leghold
trap or a box trap, with hunting from hides or a stalking hunt permitted from 1
October until 31 March, and hunting with a hunting dog permitted from 1 October
until the end of the hunting year.
- Hunting from hides or a stalking hunt or hunting
with a box trap is allowed for mink (American mink) all year round and hunting
with a hunting dog is permitted from 1 October until the end of the hunting
year.
