Societal contribution

We engage in activities that connect people with nature, promote the value of wood as a local resource, and honour the traditions of foresters. We support initiatives that foster mutual understanding in society, confidently look towards the future, and seek effective solutions to adapt to changing circumstances.

Here is a selection of our cooperation projects and initiatives.

We call on people to visit the forest
Planting

To emphasise that the forest is always open to everyone, we organise hundreds of free trips throughout the year. In cooperation with organisations such as Peaasi.ee and Liigume.ee, we share information about mental health and movement in order to support the health of every Estonian. On public forest day, everyone can lend a hand and come and plant trees.

We support forestry education

We award scholarships to the most outstanding students at the Estonian University of Life Sciences and the Luua Forestry School. We are a valued internship provider among students, and we share our knowledge of the non-curricular subject ‘State Forestry in Estonia’ at the University of Life Sciences.

We discuss and explain

We are present at Maamess in Tartu, and the Opinion Festival in Paide, and we are happy to contribute to discussions on environmental issues elsewhere. We introduce the life cycle of the forest and our activities and listen to people’s thoughts and suggestions. At the Opinion Festival, we curate discussions on climate change, innovative wood use, biodiversity conservation, and intelligent forest management.

We are a member of the Green Tiger

In 2024, we joined Green Tiger, an organisation representing green businesses. Together, we want to promote sustainable development and nature conservation in the forestry sector and boost economic development and green innovation that is in balance with nature.

We invite people to orientate

In cooperation with the Estonian Orienteering Federation, we invite people to participate in sports in nature. During RMK’s Estonian Orienteering Days season, which lasts from spring to autumn, you can take part in 300 orienteering days, suitable for both small adventurers and serious orienteering fans.

We keep traditions alive

We support Forestalia, a choir of foresters who have been active for more than 50 years. Singing foresters have chosen Henrik Visnapuu’s lines of poetry as their motto: ‘The people of Estonia are not a chip from a gnarled pine, but a triumphant mast tree standing against wind and storm!’. We are helping to endure the tradition of foresters.

We appreciate nature photography

For more than a quarter of a century, the best nature photographers in Estonia have held a photo competition called Bloodless Hunt. We organise the competition and present prizes for the best photos. We are also co-organisers of the Matsalu Nature Film Festival photo competition.

We ensure security

When the Rally Estonia World Rally Championship stage takes place on winding southern Estonian roads, RMK contributes to its safety by cleaning the edges of the course. In addition, we invite rally visitors to hike in the area between time trials.
