The roadside campfire site is suitable for relaxation and having a picnic. The shelter of the campfire site provides protection from rain and winds for 8-10 people. The Harimäe observation tower (27.5 m) next to the campfire site offers stunning views of Otepää, Valga slope and Karula national park.

Lake Pühajärv hiking trail is a 14 km trail designed for walkers. This hiking trail offers the best way to get familiar with Lake Pühajärv and its surrounds. Natural objects near the trail: Lake Pühajärv, Armuallikas (the Spring of Love), head of the Väike-Emajõgi river, Koolirand, Murrumets, Pühajärve War Oak and oak stand.

Parking

Parking in the parking area of the Otepää office of the Environmental Board or in the parking area of Pühajärve beach.

Amenities

There are 8 information boards and an observation platform. Boardwalk, bridges and stairs facilitate the hike. The Angunina 2 campfire site is located on the western bank of the lake, with a covered fireplace, tables and benches, a wooden shed with the sleeping possibility, stairs and a toilet.

Lake Pühajärv hiking trail invites you to discover the surroundings of one of Estonia’s most unique and beautiful lakes. Lake Pühajärv, Kolga farms, Love spring, Hobustemägi (“horses’ hill”), the source of the Väike-Emajõgi River, Murrumets forest, Pühajärve Sõjatamm (“war oak”).

  • The trail is partly situated on private land, please consider and follow the signs.
  • When going to Angunina 2 campfire site, the car must be left in the parking lot.

Murrumetsa trail goes through the Pühajärve park to the Murrumets forest and back. The trail is 3.5 km long and takes about 1-1.5 hours to complete. The trail is recommended for walking. The trail starts at the parking lot of Pühajärve Spa and Holiday Resort at Otepää-Kääriku Road. There are 18 information boards on the trail with texts in Estonian, English and Finnish that help to learn to know the birds, animals and plants living in the forests and cultural landscape of Otepää.

Boardwalk and bridges facilitate the hike. Supported with information boards. In the very end of the trail in Angunina1 there is an outdoor fireplace,a picnic table, a shelter, DC.

Apteekrimägi forest trail is a 4 km loop trail with varied terrain and is excellent for jogging or walking. The trail starts and ends in Mäe street, Otepää, in front of Otepää Sports School.

Sights

The “Apothecary’s hill” forest trail runs along the versatile forest landscape between the Apteekrimägi and Musimägi hills.

Renovated in 2025, the exterior of the Harimäe observation tower now has a strong metal structure (27.5 meters high) and wooden details. The tower has four observation platforms, the height from the highest one from the ground is 24 meters. There are also wooden benches on the platforms. The Harimäe observation tower offers stunning views of Otepää, as well as the Valga slope and Karula national park. The Tartu Marathon course runs past the tower.

There is a fireplace with a roof next to the tower that offers protection from rain and wind for 8-10 people. Up to 10 four-person tents are permitted in the area.

Updated parking lots with 6+3 parking spaces (large and small parking lots).

The spring on Väike Munamägi is also known as the source of the Emajõgi river and the Kalevipoeg's Rock is also called the memorial rock of the 100th Anniversary of the Estonian Flag.

Parking

Leave your car to the parking area of Väike-Munamäe Ski Resort 500 m away.

The campfire site has 2 information boards, dry toilet and stairs.

Väike-Munamägi spring and Kalevipoeg’s Stone. From the spring uphill, you can enjoy a great view from the mobilemast platform.

The circular hiking trail, equipped with bridges and boardwalks, is suitable for a pleasant walk and enjoying nature, even for younger and older hiking enthusiasts. Next to the trail, on the shore of Lake Pühajärv, there is Kooliranna campfire site, where you can grill and have a rest, and cool off in the lake water in summer.
