Hüpassaare study trail (4.4 km)
Hüpassaare study trail is closed for renovation from 18th of August 2025 to 1st of July 2026!
The trail begins with a kilometre-long section running through a drained peatland forest, where the drainage has decayed the peat and exposed the root collars of trees. As you continue, the ground gradually rises until you reach the edge of Estonia’s largest bog massif – the Kuresoo Bog. The bog landscape in Kuresoo is diverse. Here you will find peat hollows, wavy bog pools, and bog islands with large pine trees. It was here that composer Mart Saar found inspiration for his mysterious choral songs, organ, and solo songs. To honour his work, a sunrise concert is held on the bog island every year as part of the Suure-Jaani Music Festival. After swimming in a bog pool like Mart Saar, you can follow the trail to the Mart Saar Museum. The trail circles back to the beginning, where there are two swimming spots with ladders.
