Labidakivi campfire site
Foot-and-mouth, a severe animal disease, is currently circulating in Europe and also poses a threat to animals in Estonia. Your help is needed to prevent animals here – sheep, cattle, goats, and other ungulates – from becoming infected. We ask that you please follow some important recommendations.
The campfire site is located in the middle of a pine forest, surrounded by sand dunes. It caters to hikers who prefer solitude. The keywords for this place are ‘peace and silence’. Years ago, the journalist Aime Jõgi described the area as a place where ‘the air is full of happiness molecules’. Before reaching the campfire site, you will see Labidakivi, the largest erratic boulder in Viljandi County, on the side of the road. It is 10.4 metres long, 5.2 metres wide, and 3.3 metres high, it has a circumference of 24.4 metres and a volume of 80 cubic metres. Named after the nearby Labida Farm, the boulder has been protected as a individual protected natural object since 1937. Behind the giant erratic boulder lies a cosy campfire site with pine trees dating back to the last century. Sand dunes left by the Baltic proglacial lake run alongside the site, home to a diverse natural community.
