Lemmjõe forest study trail (5.8 km)
The Agriculture and Food Board warns about the spread of avian influenza. Please stay away from dead birds outdoors and ensure that your pets do not come into contact with them.
NB! If you find a dead bird, do not touch it or move it anywhere! Please report it to the Agriculture and Food Board by calling 605 4767 or 1247.
- Due to the meadow maintenance work and big amount of precipitation, the northern branch of the trail has become impassable. The Southern branch might be slippery and muddy.
The trail runs along the banks of the Raudna River, until the point where it meets the Raunda and Lemmjõgi rivers, i.e. the Lemmjõgi confluence. Soomaa’s only individual protected natural object, the Lemmjõgi dam, stands proudly in Lemmijõgi forest (keelemets). From there, the trail continues along the banks of the Lemmjõgi River, ending once more at Kuusekäär. The forest at the Lemmjõgi confluence is a floodplain forest flooded by the rivers during flood season. Traces of beaver activity can be seen along the study trail. There are no boardwalks or wood shavings to be found along the trail, only the same soil found in Soomaa, which can be as slippery as clay or as soft as peat. The wild trail passes through tall meadowsweet, nettles, and reeds, and occasionally you have to climb over fallen tree trunks or the work of beavers. The trail is ideal for adventurers who no longer find smooth boardwalks challenging. Your boots will certainly get dirty, and you may also meet a few vipers along the way.
