Lääne-Viru County, Lahemaa National Park

The trail begins and ends at RMK’s Riverside Holiday House, winding through the forests between the Kuresoo and Pikapõllu streams. The forest trail is marked with signs and colour markings on the trees. As the route at the end of the trail differs from that shown on the map, please follow the signs in area! These forests once belonged to Palmse Manor, but the state forests of the Sagadi and Oruveski forest districts were later extended here. Near the streams, the farmlands were widened. Since ancient times, cultural heritage sites have been preserved here, providing evidence of our ancestors’ way of life and activities, such as border or crossstones, tar ovens, the sites of old bridges and roads, milestones, temporary sawmills and old place names. The forests here are mostly light pine forests; only in the stream valleys do more spruces and birches grow. The streams and roads provide good orientation points, so even those with little forest experience can walk here without fear of getting lost. The rear part of the trail is outside Lahemaa National Park, which is why you can see economic forests of different ages, mainly young pine forests rich in mushrooms. Some of these young forests were planted by schoolchildren during Forest Day in 2012.

Sights

The trail forms a circle in the airy pine forests between the Kuresoo and the Pikapõllu streams. There are many objects of culture historical significance along the trail—old boundary stones, forest divisions, verst sign posts, etc.
