According to a legend, the sword of the Estonian giant hero Kalevipoeg lies in the Kääpa river. The river is 49.9 km long and has been long used as a waterway to reach Lake Peipsi. Fishermen and hikers travelling on Kääpa river can use the Priistani, Kääpa, Koseveski and Kõrgekalda rest stops along their trip from Lake Kaiu to Lake Peipsi.

Navigation instructions : On Jõhvi-Tartu-Valga Road (No. 3), drive 36 km from Tartu towards Jõhvi, turn right just before the sign "Kääpa 4 km" and drive 2.5 km. Then turn right and drive 650 m. Park your vehicle in the triangle between roads, taking care not to obstruct traffic. The rest stop is on the right, walk 250 m.
