Rannametsa–Tolkuse nature study trail (2.2 km)

In June 2023, the reconstrucion of the nature trail and the observation tower was completed.
The 2.2 km long trail is circular, completely covered with a boardwalk. The trail leads to the sandy dunes covered with pine trees, and reaches Tornimäe, where there is a 21.57-meter-high observation tower. The tower offers a magnificent view of the Häädemeeeste coastal meadow and Pärnu Bay on one side, and the Tolkuse bog on the other. From Tornimäe, the trail descends to Tolkuse bog. The boardwalk leads to the largest pool in the bog. From the bog, the trail returns to the starting point.
PS! Back and forth from the parking lot to the bog pool is the trail suitable for wheelchairs and strollers.

Parking for 10 cars or 3 buses.

Wheelchair Accessibility

For wheelchairs and strollers there are the suitable conditions on the trail from the parking lot to the bog pool.

Public Transport

  • By bus from Pärnu in the direction of Ikla to the Luite bus stop, from there along the Riga road about 100 m towards Riga and there is the starting point of the trail.
  • Bus departure times can be found in the www.tpilet.ee It is worth looking at the times of a particular day.
  • Sights

    Dunes of the coastal forest, Tolkuse bog, channel Timmkanal and its outcrop, Luitemaa Nature Reserve. The upper platform of the Rannametsa observation tower rises 18 m above the sea level. Adding the 34 m height of the Tornimägi hill, the visitors will be more than 50 m above the sea level. The study trail leads to the largest bog pool, where the water lily, bog bean and dwarf water lily grow. Along the boardwalk you can spot sundews, beak-rush, tussock cottongrass and sphagnum mosses of various colours.
