Foot-and-mouth, a severe animal disease, is currently circulating in Europe and also poses a threat to animals in Estonia. Your help is needed to prevent animals here – sheep, cattle, goats, and other ungulates – from becoming infected. We ask that you please follow some important recommendations.
Seljandiku forest hut stands on a glacial ridge of sand where scenic views open up. Due to such sand ridges there is a mosaic landscape here, and sharp transitions between communities. This land is also a former battlefield. In February and March 1944, battles took place in this area and on bog islands. German soldiers and the Omakaitse ('Home Guard') fought against partisans who had come across the frozen Lake Peipsi from Russia to Katase village and moved on towards Imatu and Roostoja.

Restrictions
The forest hut is situated in Muraka Nature Reserve. The forest hut remains within the Varessaare special management zone and according to the nature conservation rules, motorised vehicle traffic is prohibited outside roads and paths. Campfires can be made only in designated sites.

Navigation instructions : Drive 36 km on Jõhvi–Tartu road, turn right after Iisaku small town (at the sign to the Kotka hiking trail) and drive 4.4 km up to the sand bank, then turn left (at the roadside sign).
